Product Development

Here Understanding how to communicate and function in design and technical design is so important to be able to make the design a reality

Textile Development

In my education and work experience, I learned a great deal of fabric science,  the properties of textiles, and it best application. Having a great understanding of textiles and how they are made is invaluable when sourcing for a good fabric manufacturer.

In my time at Little Bipsy, I spent a great deal of time essentially educating our buyer/ production team. I showed them great resources that give different vendor information for them to do personal research but also evaluate the capabilities over just what they have made and whom the vendors have worked with in the past. There was much information the two did not understand from a fashion development stand point so I took it upon myself to give a quick brief on the cost development to make sure they and the company in empowered with cost information.

Overall understanding how the different components are made and the machines used to create them is huge when assessing the capabilities of a potential factory here are some of my favorite highlights of development of product components

Laser cutter machine

Here is an example of me utilizing a laser cutting machine. with this machine I got to use the different functions and heat modes where can cut thicknesses of materials such as denim, double faced twills and wood. With this machine I got to cut my pattern pieces and add different denim fadings such as whiskers and pressure point.

Screen Printer

Here is an example of me physically developing some print designs in a free lance project. I used a screen printing machine where I created a pattern to match the proportions set on the detailed sketches. While creating the artwork for this machine it was crucial to ensure that I was set in the correct color modes matching the pantone colors requested and of course operating that machine.

Stretch strength Apparatus

Here is an example of me utilizing one of many apparatuses to gather as much information in confirming the quality of a textile to decide its final application to a product and if it best matches the intent of said product.  This apparatus is the testing the stretch tear strength of a product I was specifically focusing on a denim fabric. This really helped me gauge the quality of the fabric on a pair of jeans for a wearer. I tested the Weft, Warp and Bias to gather all information needed and it had a poor stretch value for a pair of pants.

CAD Softwares Marker Making

Gerber, Optitex, Tukatech, Clo3D, Browzwear,

Being able to use multiple Pattern making CAD systems is something I am highly greatful for. Some softwares are similar to one another and some have their own user interface and functions but knowing how to make patterns and markers remains the same. Relating specs sheets to patterns is something I assess when seeing a vendors capabilities. Creating markers for gather more information on fabric orders  is highly crucial to maintaining all data to mitigate costs  and losses.
